Longtime resident and SFA professor Bert Rees loved all things Christmas. Growing up in the Rees house meant decked out Holiday décor both inside and out. He loved it so much he and his family created the Bert Rees Lighting Contest to spread Christmas cheer throughout the town.
Last year Visit Nacogdoches and the Rees Family lit up Nacogdoches for the 13th year in a row. We hope you'll participate again for the 14th Annual Contest! The range of categories makes it possible for all to participate. Let us all celebrate the joy of the Christmas season and be like Bert! Help us light up Nacogdoches for us all to enjoy.

All non-business entries will be considered for Judge's Choice (1st, 2nd, 3rd places & Honorable Mention) Judge's Choice prizes range from $75-$300. Categories from previous years have been consolidated.
People's Choice: To enter the People's Choice category, you must submit a single photo of the home and its decorations. Multiple photos are prohibited to ensure fairness. People's Choice voting will take place the night before the contest ends, on December 19th. People's Choice voting will run for 24 hours from 3:00pm on 12/19 to 3:00pm on 12/20. Whichever photo gets the most reactions wins the category prize (TBD)
Downtown Business Category: In partnership with Nacogdoches Main Street, all Downtown businesses are invited to enter this special category celebrating the beautiful window and light displays! This category is sponsored by the Nacogdoches Main Street Board. If you are unsure if you are considered a Downtown Business, please contact Tori Huddleston at huddlestont@nactx.us
General Business Category: In partnership with the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce, all non-Downtown businesses in Nacogdoches are invited to enter this category! Help us "Light Up Nacogdoches" and showcase our beautiful town!
