(Nacogdoches, TX) The Sterne-Hoya House Museum and Library welcomes visitors to the Grand Opening of the exhibit "A Victorian Christmas" from 6:00 – 9:00 pm on Saturday, November 21, 2009. The exhibits grand opening will be part of the festivities kicking off this year’s Nine Flags Festival.

The exhibit takes visitors back to the holiday celebrations during the Victorian era when the Von de Hoya family owned the home. Visitors will be treated to the fashion, decorations, and traditions that might have been seen and heard at a Nacogdoches party during this time period. The Hoya parlor will be decorated for the Holiday Season in a true Victorian fashion with winter evergreens such as holly, ivy, and mistletoe adorning the walls. Guest will be welcomed to tours given by guides dressed in time period appropriate costumes. As part of the exhibit apple cider and cookies will be served on the front porch. The Nacogdoches High School choir, the “Notables”, will greet visitors with traditional Christmas carols in front of the Sterne Hoya house. Each child will be given a dough ornament to take home with them to place on their family’s tree and add a little bit of history to their holiday celebrations.
The exhibit will run through the holiday season, November 21, 2009 through December 31, 2009, and can be viewed during regular hours, Tuesday - Saturday 10 am to 4 pm. The exhibit opening and tours are free, but donations are welcome.

Participants in the Nine Flags Festival can ride the hayride down to the corner of Lanana and Pilar Streets and jump off to join us for a night of food, fun, and an old-fashioned Christmas come to life!
