Nacogdoches
is an excellent year-around destination, but there are a few
really "special" times that will leave your group
talking about their trip for years to come.
Azalea
Trails
Our most popular tour season is Spring. The Nacogdoches
Azalea Trail has become a favorite destination for groups from
across Texas as well as Oklahoma and Louisiana. The event is held
annually in late March through early April (March 15 to March 21,
2008).
The
highlight of the 20+ miles of trails is the Ruby
M. Mize Azalea Garden on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State
University. It is the largest azalea garden in Texas
showcasing more than 7,000 azaleas from 500 known varieties. But
the real show stopper in the azalea garden are the large, yellow
fragrant blooms of the Sunrise azalea. Call us today to schedule a
VIP tour of the garden.
Texas
Blueberry Festival
Nacogdoches
is best known for its role in early Texas history, but for one
weekend in June a small, round blue berry reins as the town's top
tourist attraction. The Texas Blueberry Festival, held annually on
the second weekend of June, pays tribute to the
small blue fruit that has become one of the world's most popular
berries. The most popular events of the festival include the
blueberry pancake breakfast, blueberry farm tours (which includes
picking all the fresh blueberries you want) and the antique car
show and parade. For a full list of events, visit www.texasblueberryfestival.com.
Fall
Foliage Tours
The
rolling hills and towering trees of East Texas was ranked among
the top 10 areas in Texas to view fall foliage. While it is
difficult to predict the peak of the foliage season, it is usually
in mid to late November. We'll be glad to provide you with
information on the most scenic drives in the area. Click here
for a map of the driving trails.
Holiday
in the Pines & Holiday Lighting Ceremony
One
of our most popular tour weekends falls the Friday and Saturday
before Thanksgiving. Holiday in the Pines is an indoor holiday
shopping extravaganza that is open Friday and Saturday. With more
than 100 merchants showcasing everything from jewelry to edible
treats, it's the best way to kick-off the holiday season! Advance
tickets are recommended, and we can also help arrange VIP entry
for your group into the show. Saturday evening, your group will be
dazzled by more than 2.5 million Christmas lights that decorate
the downtown historic district. The lighting ceremony includes
entertainment and a fireworks show.
Nine
Flags Festival
The
Nine Flags Festival is an East Texas tradition. The festival
includes a downtown lighting display of more than 3 million
lights, a historic homes tour, wassail fest, the largest lighted
Christmas parade in Deep East Texas, and the Texas Old Time
Fiddler's Championship. For more information visit www.nineflagsfestival.com.
